WCR secures the 2021 A2 class title in the Romanian Endurance Series

For the second time in three years, West Competition Racing is the A2 national endurance champion. A fourth win this season for the BMW crew of Dinu Dumitrașcu and Alex Șiclovan ensures the mathematical certainty of being first in class.

What seemed to be the easiest run towards a victory in 2021 wasn't, in all fairness, because of an unfortunate incident. Things were going well on Saturday, when Alex claimed pole position (1:51.533) with a comfortable margin over the sole A2 opponent and the Logan Cup contingent. Afterwards, the squad went to party in the medieval citadel, where the racing car had been exposed to the public at the Noah Craft Beer stand on Friday evening. Sooner or later, even in our spare time we are still racers, which guided us towards the go-kart track in Târgu Mureș, where Dinu Dumitrașcu had a rough time under the lights. He instantly felt the pain after a contact with another kart and a good night's sleep made no difference.

Dinu was in severe rib pain and had difficulties breathing, contemplating his ability to cope for 50 minutes. Just a few practice laps in the morning were already hard to handle, as he came back to the pits and shook his head in disbelief. Alex felt that he couldn't race for the whole two hours, so the team decided to lengthen his stint to the maximum of 70 minutes and then hope for Dinu to be able to last the distance. It wasn't a race with others, but one with themselves. Alex started well in a perfect car, building a gap as expected. Dinu had the chance to relax during some caution periods, crossing the line to claim the A2 and RES Touring win after 54 laps.

In the end, it was a great result - finishing one lap down on a GT4 and in the same lap as the A4 Cayman. The lead in A2 was unassailable, turning WCR into the first champions of the 2021 season at the same venue where we claimed the same title two years ago. Mathematically, the touring car division championship is also almost in the bag, with a lead of 88 points with 100 still available in autumn.

The BMW displayed a one-off livery celebrating the start of a sim racing competition - Logitech G Challenge Romania. A complete rig was installed in the pit box, with enthusiasts joining us backstage, experiencing the thrills of setting fast laps in the sim while hearing and feeling the emotion of real racing up close.
