The Romanian sim racing scene currently goes through a massive transformation, given the opportunity of a transition towards the most technologically advanced platforms available on the market. Thus, the leading national series, Racing League Romania, will switch towards both Assetto Corsa Competizione and iRacing in January 2021, after six successful seasons in Assetto Corsa.
The ACC environment mirrors the SRO championships, currently on offer being GT World Challenge Europe, GT4 European Series and the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The first Romanian campaign on this platform will include 10 endurance rounds, alternating 1-hour and 2-hour events before a final 4-hour showcase decider. Every entrant is a two driver pair, alternating at the wheel of the vehicle that will be announced shortly.
Two former champions of the series are teaming up to aim for the title: Victor Nicolae and Alex Cascatău will race together for the first time in a season-long program under the Aqirys banner. Sharing the same analytical approach and theoretical knowledge of vehicle dynamics, it seemed an obvious fit. Nicolae stated: ”I am thrilled to put in place the right procedures and express my work ethic towards the ideal setup”, to which Cascatău added: ”moving towards a more realistic simulation platform allows a convergence between real and virtual that we can turn into our advantage. I truly believe we can challenge for this championship.”
The winter reshuffle continued: former Motul and Smart Driving third drivers Mihai Rusu and Cezar Toader will race together, aiming for podium presences representing the new partner and identity of Textar eSports. Their famous livery is reminiscent from the VLN Porsche cars of the same brand. Cezar and Mihai aim to be regular podium contenders in the 30+ crew series and set their sights on a Top 5 season placement.
Andrei Costea and Iulian Resmeriță (Amnesia) decided to embark on a steep learning phase in 2021. These crews will share knowledge and training opportunities towards common progress all along the season under the WCR Academy that Nicolae plans to develop.
Bogdan Moldovan moves on to chase his quest for the elusive RLR first victory with a new team after two seasons in the West Competition Racing stable, while there are hardware uncertainties at the moment regarding Akos Szabo, Mihnea Hiru and Mihnea Georgescu. Mihai Neg will continue on the international scene in RaceRoom.
Further announcements regarding partnerships and iRacing involvement will be made public in due course.
