Off-season nostalgia takes us to Road America

The Racing League Romania community has switched on from Assetto Corsa Competizione towards iRacing in 2024. This has suited Dragos Simion, who claimed the last three championships in a row – Season 4 with Formula 4 single seaters, Season 5 with GT3s and Season 6 with LMP3 prototypes. Meanwhile, Victor Nicolae also regained form last autumn, winning the newly-formed clubsport championship in Season 6 with the GR86 Toyota and the GT4 category of the main series in the latest-gen BMW.

In 2025, RLR decided not to mirror the first official iRacing season with a parallel Romanian championship. Instead, this period has been dedicated to various retro beauties: an Assetto Corsa BTCC series that revives the Super Touring era, but also a special iRacing event that will take place on Feb, 10 with GT1s and old-gen LMP2s. Nobody seems eager to race for 24 hours as these cars surely did in their prime, but a 10% simulation still feels like a considerable solo effort. V8 Corvettes will battle loudly against V12 Aston Martin DBR9s at Road America, Victor picking the American side in this fight.

On the prototype front, the HPD won Sebring overall in 2007 and the LMP2 Le Mans class a few years later, when it was still an open fight between chassis and engine manufacturers. Dragos looks to tame one of the last great open cockpit endurance weapons. Here’s the full entry list of the race that Alex will be calling.
